Seiko 5 Sports HDB012 x FTC 40th Anniversary Limited Edition – Orange Dial, Gold Tone

Seiko 5 Sports teams up with FTC, the legendary San Francisco skate brand, to celebrate its 40th anniversary. FTC started in 1986 as a small selection of skate gear in the back of a ski and tennis shop, and it opened its first store in the Haight-Ashbury district in 1994. It’s since become one of the true homes of street skate culture. The HDB012 marks that milestone and is limited to just 663 pieces, available only in the U.S. and Japan.

The dial comes in orange, San Francisco’s signature color and a nod to FTC’s roots in the city. Its layout is borrowed from a popular Seiko archive design from the 1980s, the decade FTC was founded, and the FTC logo sits at 6 o’clock. The orange dial is set in a gold-colored stainless steel case with a matching gold-tone bracelet, for a bold, eye-catching look. A day-date window, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and LumiBrite on the hands and indices round out the SKX-inspired sports design.

Flip it over and the see-through case back shows the FTC logo in the center of the glass, along with “FTC 40TH ANNIVERSARY,” “LIMITED EDITION,” and the watch’s individual serial number. Inside is Seiko’s Caliber 4R36 automatic movement with 24 jewels and about 41 hours of power reserve. It winds itself as you wear it, can also be wound by hand, and has a hacking seconds hand for precise time setting.

The watch also comes with an extra black nylon strap for a more casual look, a special edition box inspired by a popular FTC apparel graphic, and an original watch cloth. With 100 meters of water resistance, it’s built for everyday wear and makes a true collector’s piece for fans of Seiko, skate culture, or both.
