Why purple?

Kintaro Hattori opened his first watch shop in Tokyo in 1881. To mark 145 years, Seiko reached back further still — to Edo Murasaki, the deep violet worn in the city that became Tokyo — and applied it to five references from across the family: Prospex, Presage, Seiko 5 Sports and a faithful revival of a 1982 digital.

Each dial is finished with a subtle sunray so the purple shifts from near-black to bright violet in the light. Every watch is individually numbered on the case back and production is capped worldwide, so once our allocation is spoken for, it’s gone.

Two of Seiko's sport icons in the anniversary colour. The Alpinist keeps its compass ring and cathedral hands over a purple sunray dial on a croc-pattern strap with purple stitching; the Solar Speedtimer chronograph pairs a purple dial and gold-tone accents with a purple-marked tachymeter bezel on the full steel bracelet.

The mountaineer's Seiko, in a colour it has never worn before. A 39.5 mm steel case with the Alpinist's signature inner compass ring, set by the second crown at four o'clock, cathedral hands and Arabic numerals in gold tone, and the in-house 6R55 automatic with a 72-hour power reserve behind a sapphire crystal with a date magnifier. The black croc-pattern leather strap picks up the dial with purple stitching.

The dress watch of the set. Seiko's Cocktail Time dials are inspired by drinks from Tokyo's bars — this one by the "Edo Murasaki", a violet cocktail created for the anniversary — and the 4R34 movement adds an independent 24-hour GMT hand for a second time zone.

The 1982 Rotocall was a digital with a rotating function ring around the display — time, alarm, timer, stopwatch — and Seiko has recreated it at the original 37 mm size. The case and bracelet are black stainless steel, the bezel ring is anodised purple aluminium with gold-tone lettering, and the display keeps the original layout. Water resistant to 10 bar for everyday wear.

About the Seiko 145th anniversary limited editions

When are the Seiko 145th anniversary watches available?

Seiko announced the five Edo Purple limited editions in August 2026 with availability from October 2026. We're taking reservations now — call 470-818-2086 or use the waitlist on each product page and we'll contact you the moment your reference arrives at the Mall of Georgia.

How limited are they?

Each reference has a fixed worldwide production run and a numbered case back: HBC006 Alpinist 7,000 pieces, HBJ005 Solar Speedtimer 8,000, HCB006 Cocktail Time GMT 6,000, HDB003 5 Sports SKX 9,999 and HFL001 Rotocall 4,000. Our allocation is a small share of those numbers, so we recommend reserving rather than waiting.

What is Edo Purple?

Edo Murasaki is a deep violet associated with Edo, the city that became Tokyo, where Seiko founder Kintaro Hattori opened his first shop in 1881. Seiko used the colour across all five anniversary dials, each with a sunray finish so it shifts between near-black and bright violet in the light.

Can I put a deposit down or use financing?

Yes. Call us to reserve a reference against a deposit, or check out online with Affirm financing once your watch is listed. In-stock watches ship free anywhere in the United States.

Do the anniversary editions come with special packaging?

Each watch is individually numbered on the case back and ships in Seiko's dedicated packaging for the anniversary series. As with every Seiko we sell, you also get the full Seiko USA warranty and complimentary bracelet sizing in store.

Can I try them on before buying?

Yes — we're at the Mall of Georgia in Buford, second level next to Victoria's Secret. As the references land in October you can compare them side by side, and we'll size the bracelet to your wrist before you leave.
